Since he was a little child, Toni has been passionate about the arts. In 1987, he earned a degree in fine arts and design from Institut Teknologi Bandung, one of the top universities in Indonesia. Following graduation, he worked in a variety of other industries, including publishing, advertising, fashion and clothing, as well as lecturing at the university where he had previously completed his studies. Since 2005, major contests in the Asian area, such as those in Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines. and China have routinely called Toni to serve as a judge due to his renowned ability in evaluating comic/cartoon artwork.

Toni has also written numbers of tutorial drawing books in Bahasa Indonesia, including 14 Jurus Membuat Komik, Let’s Draw Manga, dan Jurus-Jurus Nggambar Figur. However, in the last five years he has focused more on producing his silent comics masterpieces using various types of sketch method, such as the curled shedding technique and some pointillist. A number of domestic and foreign colleges now use his debut comic, Karimata 1890, as a textbook reference. It was the first solo slient comic he ever released. Following the Lao Sam 1892, the second book from a series of five Karimata Universe 1890.

Karimata Universe 1890 are based on historical romances that combined with intriguing made-up characters. Toni Masdiono was helped in the creation of this universe by Lukman Sinara, the owner of Sinten Photo Studio, a close friend and supporter of the creation of this comic series, who both of them share Indonesian history and culture via their own artistic endeavors. They worked together to conduct in-depth research on the historical contexts, create characters, and develop the storylines and locations for the events shown in the comic.
