The Andungu or skull tree motif is a unique motif on East Sumba’s woven cloth. The tree is a representation of the palm tree found in the courtyard of royal residences, where enemies’ or criminals’ skulls are hung. And the symbol of snake is similar to lobster. Sumbanese believe there will be new life after death, just like a snake sheds its skin, we must sheds our past over and over again.
