Laosam 1892: The second series of silent comic after the first debut Karimata 1890, tells about A small town on the coast of Java island which was known as Tiongkok Kecil (Little China) and also nicknamed Lao Sam because the area surrounded by old teakwoods. In the Majapahit era the area was led by Bhre Lasem and since the arrival of Admiral Zheng He has became the main commercial links with China. The lives of the Lasem people consisting of Javanese and Chinese are known to be very harmonious for hundreds of years, even when Lasem’s people battle against the Dutch colonialist in 1750, they united against the invasion of the Kompeni (the Dutch, East India Company soldier). The war called Yellow War. Apart of being a trade route for spices and batik since the British government conquered the island of Java, Lasem secretly also became the key location of the opium traffic for the eastern region of the archipelago. This story takes place in early 1892, before the year of the Water Dragon, a young businessman tried to seize opium’s trade commodities from a senior businessman, who had been a resident of Lao Sam for generations. Small friction became a big wave that tends to become a bloody war, which ultimately disturbs the peaceful life of the city of Lasem.
