Bambang Wiwoho

Portraying Balinese Culture

Bambang Wiwoho, a painter from Semarang, honed his art studying under Koh Yang Lai in his hometown. While under the tutelage of Semarang-based painter Kok Poo, Wiwoho had the privilege of encountering the esteemed Indonesian painting maestro, Dullah. At the age of 21, Wiwoho relocated to Bali and became a member of Dullah’s Pejeng Art Studio, residing in Denpasar for two years and frequenting the studio on weekends. Additionally, from 1993 to 2000, Wiwoho actively participated in the Senin Kemis Art Studio.
Initially a realist painter, Wiwoho has since transitioned to an impressionistic style. His artwork predominantly features portraits and scenes reflecting Indonesian culture, with a particular emphasis on Balinese culture due to his extensive stay in Bali. However, he also depicts Javanese and Madurese cultural elements. Wiwoho’s paintings are characterized by retro tones, evoking a vintage aesthetic that exudes simplicity and natural beauty. Additionally, Wiwoho offers portrait painting services based on photographs.
While Wiwoho has taken part in group exhibitions across Bali and Java, he has yet to hold a solo exhibition. Throughout his two decades in the art world, Wiwoho’s artistic pursuits have been driven by a desire to simply enjoy his passion and share Indonesian culture with others in his golden years.
