Sekomandi is a traditional handwoven textile from Kalumpang Village, Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi, believed to be one of the oldest existing weaving traditions in the world. The motif shown here is Ulu Karua Barinni (Ba’ba Deata), known as the first motif ever created by Sekomandi weavers. It symbolizes the unity of a family lineage and represents the eight ancestral traditional leaders (Makki adat) who once held important roles within the community.
