Wayang Parkan

Parkan in Javanese wayang usually refers to servant or guard characters who support the royal court. They are often called abdi because they serve kings, nobles, or important warriors. These characters commonly appear at the beginning of a wayang performance to introduce the setting and atmosphere. Although they are not the main heroes, they help the story flow smoothly and make scenes feel more lively. The meaning of “Parkan” can be slightly different depending on the dalang and local wayang tradition.
