Adu Siraha Salawa is a seated ancestor figure from the Ono Niha people of Nias Island, where ancestors held a central place in art and religion. Such figures (adu) were believed to house ancestral spirits, serving as a bridge between the human and supernatural realms. The figure wears an elaborate crown and ornaments, symbols of high nobility in Nias society. While Ono Niha men were usually clean-shaven, the pronounced moustache and beard here likely represent ceremonial facial hair made of gold, worn by noblemen on festive occasions. This sculpture embodies both the spiritual reverence and the social prestige of Nias ancestral traditions.
