In the Toraja language, Passura’ means carving or engraving. Traditionally, these intricate motifs are found on Tongkonan (traditional Toraja houses), Alang (rice barns), and Erong (wooden coffins), each carrying deep philosophical meanings about life, nature, and spirituality. Today, Passura’ patterns are also beautifully adapted into woven fabric hangings, such as this piece, combining traditional symbolism with decorative artistry to bring a touch of Toraja heritage into modern spaces.
