Dayak wooden carving doors, known as “pintu papan” or “gagang,” are famous for their intricate designs and rich symbolism, reflecting the culture and beliefs of the Dayak people of Borneo. Traditionally used as entrances to longhouses and important rooms within them, these ornately carved doors feature human figures representing ancestral spirits or hunters for strength and protection, and the mystical dragon dog, Aso, symbolizing a powerful guardian against evil spirits and illness.
