Siraha Salawa (also known as Siraha Omo) is a large, intricately carved wooden figure from Nias. In the Nias language, salawa means “chieftain,” while omo means “house.” The name Siraha Salawa literally translates as “chief deity image.” The figure represents the founding ancestor or chieftain of a household and serves as a spiritual protector of the home. During important ceremonies, offerings were placed in the small bowl held in its hands. These sculptures are finely polished and highly detailed, reflecting their sacred significance and embodying both ancestral authority and divine guardianship. Their presence within a home signified reverence for ancestors and a wish for protection, prosperity, and harmony.
