This woven textile tells the story of Sade Village and the cultural significance of Lombok. For generations, the eastern region of Lombok was known as one of the finest boat-building centers, and this heritage is woven into the textile’s motifs. You can also see the Bale, the traditional Sasak house, represented as a key symbol. The people depicted are the Sasak tribe, who have lived in Sade Village for around 15 generations, preserving their traditions and way of life. Textiles have long been an important part of Lombok culture. The material remains entirely natural and the colors come from traditional dyeing techniques: light brown from coconut husk, deep blue from tamarind, and black from tree bark. Every piece is created using a manual backstrap loom, a weaving method passed down through generations.
