Batak Calendar Storage (S)

The Batak Toba calendar and medicine storage item, known as a “Naga Morsarang,” features a human figure mounted on a horse and is rich in symbolism. The human figure represents a shaman or healer, signifying wisdom and spiritual authority, while the horse symbolizes strength and the ability to travel between earthly and spiritual realms. This artifact was used to store medicinal herbs and substances and also served as a calendar for organizing agricultural activities and rituals. The carvings hold deep cultural and spiritual significance, believed to protect the contents and empower the shaman’s healing practices.
