Brown Sasak Bale House

Rp1.500.000

This woven textile tells the story of the Sasak people of Lombok, featuring the Bale, the traditional Sasak house, as a central symbol of home and continuity. The figures represent the Sasak community, who have lived in the village for around 15 generations, preserving their traditions and way of life. Textiles have long played an important role in Lombok’s cultural identity. Made entirely from natural materials, the colors come from traditional dyes: light brown from coconut husk and black from tree bark.. Each piece is handwoven on a manual backstrap loom. Compared to textiles from Sade Village that mainly use cotton, weavings from Sukarara Village often use banana or pineapple fiber as the base material, giving them a slightly rougher texture and highlighting the diversity within Sasak weaving traditions.
