Dark Blue Pagi Sore Parang Bouquet

Rp750.000

During the late colonial period, batik pagi sore emerged as a practical and symbolic textile, reflecting the social realities of the time when versatility and elegance were highly valued. This dual-pattern cloth combines two contrasting motifs: the buketan motif, influenced by Dutch presence and European floral aesthetics, and the parang motif, one of the oldest and most revered Javanese patterns. Buketan, derived from the Dutch word boeket, features bouquets of flowers and birds in soft pastel tones, symbolizing growth, prosperity, peace, and hope shaped by cultural exchange in Pekalongan’s Indo-European milieu. In contrast, parang represents strength, continuity, self-control, and an unbroken spirit, rooted deeply in Javanese philosophy and moral discipline. Together within a single pagi sore cloth, these motifs embody a balance between adaptation and tradition, beauty and resilience, capturing the layered identity of Javanese society under colonial influence.
