Dragon Blencong Lamp

Rp3.000.000

Suspended between the shadow-puupet master (dalang) and screen (kelir), these beautiful lamps held around clay or metal pots, which were filled with coconut oil through spouts. The large cotton wicks were set aflame to create the light necessary to cast the shadow of the hand-held puppets (wayang kulit). The lamps also performed another crucial function. They protected the head of the dalang, which was only inches away from the heat of the fire, during all-night performance.
