This coin combines Chinese, Javanese, and Balinese symbolism, reflecting a fusion of cultural and spiritual beliefs. Its round shape with a central hole symbolizes harmony between heaven and earth in Chinese tradition, while the gunungan and wayang figures represent duality and cosmic balance in Javanese philosophy. In Balinese Hindu practice, such coins-called pis bolong-are used in rituals and believed to possess spiritual power. Known as Gobog Majapahit, these coins were made of copper or bronze and used during the Majapahit era not only for trade but also as cultural symbols. The wayang carvings, often inspired by epic tales such Ramayana or Mahabharata, highlight the Majapahit kingdom’s artistic sophistication and the strong connection between art, morality, and daily life.
