Janger Dancer Sculpture

Balinese Janger dancer sculpture, showcases intricate details of traditional attire. The dancer wears a stunning gelungan bunga mas (golden flower headdress), two large subeng (ear studs), and a richly decorated collar. Popular in the 1930s, such busts became sought-after souvenirs for Dutch and British soldiers post-World War II. The Janger dance, a lively and flirtatious youth performance, involves groups of young men and women dancing to gamelan or gender wayang music (traditional Balinese orchestra), with the women’s group referred to as Janger and the men as Kecak.
