Kakatua Haikara

Rp650.000

Haikara is a traditional hair comb from Sumba, historically made from turtle shell and worn as part of aristocratic attire, symbolizing noble lineage and social status. Traditionally gifted by fathers to daughters upon reaching puberty, it marked the transition into adulthood and readiness for marriage. This contemporary version is crafted from coconut shell as a conservation conscious alternative, preserving the original shape, character, and hardness while helping reduce the hunting of tortoises. The comb is topped with a carved kakatua jambul, a cockatoo native to Sumba that lives in groups, symbolizing togetherness, communal life, and shared strength.
