Javanese boxes, called “Peti,” were traditionally used to store rice, heirloom textiles, and wedding attire. Made from durable teak wood, these boxes are celebrated for their intricate paintings and detailed carvings. A prominent feature often found on the front of these boxes is the Kawung motif, a white, flower-like pattern that symbolizes the “flower of life.” This ancient symbol represents purity, harmony, and the cycle of life, adding a deeper cultural significance to these beautifully crafted boxes.
