Khmer Loro Blonyo

Rp42.000.000

This sculpture is a rare interpretation of the Loro Blonyo, a symbol of harmony, balance, and marital unity rooted in Javanese tradition. Representing the union of masculine and feminine forces, Loro Blonyo embodies prosperity, fertility, and cosmic balance, traditionally associated with aristocratic and sacred domestic spaces. Inspired by the Majapahit era, this pair reflects a period of intense cultural exchange across Southeast Asia. While its symbolic essence remains Javanese, its facial features, proportions, and ornaments show strong Khmer influence, reminiscent of sculptures from Angkor Wat, highlighting the historical connection between Java and Cambodia. Cast in brass with an antique finish, the sculpture was crafted in Mojokerto, a region closely linked to Majapahit heritage. Only five copies were made; one is preserved in Tenganan Village, known for safeguarding ancient traditions.
