This sculpture depicts twin birds ridden by a king ancestor, serving as a symbolic reminder of ancestral spirits believed to protect the village and bring prosperity to its people. The figure reflects the close relationship between leadership, nature, and ancestral guardianship in Flores culture. The birds are inspired by Lawe Lujang, a mystical and elusive bird revered in local belief. Known for its long, flowing white tail feathers, Lawe Lujang is rarely seen in the wild and inhabits the forested areas around Flores. Its beauty and mystery have elevated it to a sacred status; encountering this bird is believed to be a sign of good fortune and blessing.Through this sculpture, myth, memory, and nature intertwine, embodying protection, prosperity, and the enduring presence of ancestors watching over the land.
