Majapahit Frog Kendi

Rp2.200.000

Kendi is a traditional Javanese earthenware water vessel with an unglazed red terracotta finish, used in the Indonesian archipelago since prehistoric times. Valued for its natural cooling properties, it has long served both daily hydration and refined hospitality in Java’s tropical climate. This handcrafted terracotta kendi reflects the classic silhouette of the Majapahit era, featuring a wide, rounded body, a tall flared neck, and a broad rim. Its upper surface is adorned with carved floral and geometric motifs, while the spout is shaped like a frog, an animal symbolically linked to water and rain in Javanese mythology, as well as representing fertility and good fortune.
