Njara Pastola Tongal

Rp1.500.000

Tongal is a wooden pouch worn by men and is an important part of traditional clothing in Sumba. It represents the region’s rich woodcarving tradition. Worn tied around the waist, the tongal is used to store small valuable items such as money, tobacco, lime, and mamuli, respected traditional ear ornaments. This particular tongal is decorated with a carved figure of a person riding a horse and holding a spear-like weapon, possibly referring to Pasola, a traditional horseback ritual involving spear throwing that symbolizes bravery and respect for ancestors.
