Papuan Tifa and Fuu Player Sculpture

Rp6.250.000

Papua is home to many traditional musical instruments, with two of the most prominent being the Tifa and the Fuu. The Tifa, a traditional drum, plays a central role in Asmat cultural ceremonies, while the Fuu, a ceremonial flute, originally served as a tool for communication—calling people to gather for rituals or summoning animals during hunts. Before entering the forest, local hunters climb trees to play the Fuu, aiming to lure animals out of hiding. The Fuu is often played in collaboration with the Tifa, creating a harmonious blend of sound. The sculpture depicts a seated figure with bent legs and a focused expression, capturing a moment of deep engagement. This posture may symbolize storytelling, music-making, or spiritual communication, reflecting the cultural significance of these instruments in Papuan traditions.
