Kaliuda Village located in the furthest south east part of Sumba. Manu, Karangu and Njara are the most widely used motifs in this area. The word Manu means rooster which is a symbol of alertness. Kurangu, which translates to lobster, stands for the ancestors’ conviction that behind death there’s a new life or hope. Njara or horse is the most common transportation in Sumba, it represents masculinity, bravery, agility and heroism.
