Sarong Patola Mamuli Karihu Weaving

The lower flower motif, referred to as Patola Ratu, was initially exclusive to priests, nobility, and kings. It symbolizes the interconnection between humans and nature, offering guidance to indigenous communities about adhering to their principles and convictions. The central image blends Mamuli, depicting female genitalia and symbolizing the role of women as life-givers, with Karihu, representing the industrious nature of women through the metaphor of an ancient butterfly.
