Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction and transformation, is depicted in a half-lotus position (ardha padmasana), symbolizing a meditative yet alert state. This posture reflects the Hindu-Buddhist influence in Indonesia between the 8th and 14th centuries, where deities were often shown in meditation but ready to interact and bless.
Shiva’s four hands carry layered meanings: both right hands display the karana mudra, a gesture to dispel evil, while one left hand holds a kamandalu, symbolizing purity and immortality, and the other holds a camara, representing divine authority and cleanliness. Beneath him are five small Ganeshas, illustrating his dual role as both ascetic yogi and nurturing householder, while also signifying his protective and creative energy. On the reverse side is Jatayu, the heroic bird from the Ramayana who sacrificed himself in an attempt to save Sita, embodying courage, loyalty, and dharma.
