Rumbi is a traditional wooden rice container from the Batak tribe in Sumatra, crafted from large tree trunks that are hollowed out to a depth of approximately 29 cm, forming a circular shape resembling a fish barrel. It features handles on both sides for easy carrying and a fitted lid to keep the rice fresh and secure. In Nias, a smaller version of the Rumbi is used to store valuable items like jewelry and clothing. Beyond rice storage, the Rumbi serves various purposes, such as holding water and agricultural harvest.
