Sunrise Mountain Wooden Bone Box

This Benteng Chinese box was traditionally used to store jewelry, personal keepsakes, mahjong tiles, or ceremonial items. Created by the Peranakan Chinese community of Tangerang, whose roots trace back to the 15th century, such objects reflect a rich blend of Hokkien, Malay, Sundanese, Betawi, and Chinese cultural influences. The box is adorned with a carved mBenteng and sunrise motif. In Chinese symbolism, mountains represent stability, endurance, and prosperity, while the rising sun signifies renewal, hope, and the promise of new beginnings. Together, these auspicious elements express wishes for a harmonious life, lasting success, and a bright future.
