Swan Wooden Bone Box

This Benteng Chinese box was traditionally used to store jewelry, personal keepsakes, mahjong tiles, or ceremonial items. As part of a unique Peranakan Chinese-Indonesian community in Tangerang, with roots dating back to the 15th century, their cultural artifacts often reflect a fusion of Hokkien, Malay, Sundanese, Betawi, and Chinese influences in both design and meaning. A carved swan motif, occasionally found on these boxes, symbolizes grace, purity, and lasting love values that align with the refined and harmonious ideals present in both Chinese tradition and Peranakan heritage.
