This stone statue offers a glimpse into the cultural, spiritual, and social life of the Kediri Kingdom, a flourishing realm renowned for its advancements in literature, trade, and religious devotion within the Hindu-Buddhist tradition. The sculpture portrays women from the Kediri era, each distinguished by variations in hairstyle and clothing, reflecting the diversity of roles, statuses, and regional influences within the kingdom. Hairstyles range from elaborate, high-set arrangements that may signify nobility or ceremonial occasions, to simpler, neatly bound styles more common among villagers. The garments, likely inspired by woven textiles and batik patterns of the time, drape gracefully and are accented with sashes or decorative folds, revealing both practical and ornamental aspects of dress in this period.
