Red String Noken (M)

Rp1.250.000

Noken is a traditional handmade bag from Papua, crafted from natural materials such as tree bark fibers that are spun into durable threads and woven into a strong, net-like structure. This particular noken comes from Wamena, a highland area in the northern region near the Baliem Valley, where noken are often characterized by the use of colorful strings that add vibrancy to their form. Highly multifunctional, noken is used in daily life to carry produce, seafood, firewood, and even babies. Beyond its practical function, it carries deep cultural symbolism, representing peace, fertility, and prosperity, while the knowledge of its making is preserved and passed down among Papuan women, known as “Mama Noken.”
