Simple Mataram Kendi

Kendi is a traditional Javanese earthenware water vessel featuring a distinctive unglazed red terracotta finish. Water vessels of this type are believed to have existed in the Indonesian archipelago since prehistoric times, gradually evolving in form, proportion, and function. By the 8th to 10th century, during the Ancient Mataram period, kendi had become integral to Hindu Buddhist ritual practice, with variations in shape and construction allowing scholars to distinguish vessels from different eras.
